Suzuki launches Fuel Cell Wheelchair

The market leader in wheelchair segment, Suzuki Motor Corperation, unveiled its new wheelchair powered by the fuel cell technology.

The latest addition to the company’s existing product lineup, the MIO features a fuel cell that uses methanol as a fuel source. On combustion, the chemical compound generates hydrogen and therefore electricity.

Designed to be small in size and swift in operation, the wheelchair measures 1200 mm long, 650 mm wide and 1000 mm tall. The compact size ensures easy and brisk operation in crowded surroundigs.

Featuring a tank capacity of 4 liters, the MIO offers approximately 25 miles of coverage area. An LCD screen displaying fuel level and power sources also appears on the front panel.

Moreover, the device also provides a battery backup that comes into use if the methanol tank runs dry. A large capacity Li-ion secondary battery acts as a storehouse for the electricity generated and a back up source of power.

Bringing up the best example of the convergence between safety and good looks, the wheelchair features armrests that enhance safety barriers. Also, the handlebars have been designed for greater comfort and ensure full steering lock with minimal effort.

Interlaced from a mesh type fabric, the seat ensures good aeration and improved springing apart from providing extra comfort.
