Everex StepNote NC1500: Most Efficient of All Laptops
Computer maker Everex Systems finally played their cards to launch something really interesting, which they are calling the "world's most energy efficient notebook". They made it possible through the collaboration set up with Taiwanese chipmaker Via Technologies. Everex StepNote NC1500 as they call it is available in Wal-Mart where it is being sold under $498.
"The latest notebook from Everex embodies the 'Simply Mobile' spirit of the Via C7-M processor in enabling truly portable computing," commented Epan Wu, Deputy Director of CPU Product Marketing, VIA Technologies, Inc. "With the best performance-per-watt operation in the industry and innovative features such as Enhanced Power-Saver technology and the Pad-Lock Security Engine, we're confident that the NC1500 will be a front runner in a market yearning for robust mobile solutions."
The chip used in the StepNote made by Via Technologies is basically something very similar to the Celeron M 370, 1.5 GHz chip. The StepNote NC1500 is the first Everex notebook to use the Via C7-M processor, Lin told TechNewsWorld, and provides a 20 percent improvement in battery life over comparable systems.
Though Intel could never achieve this feat so easily with Celeron processors, which probably fit into the same league in terms of speed. But of course its making up with the issue being focused heavily in its higher end processors like the Core 2 Duo processors.
The thing which signifies the higher efficiency of Everex StepNote NC1500 is its technology implementation part. Everex's new notebook uses Via's Enhanced PowerSaver technology and Via TwinTurbo, which allows it to dynamically transition between intermediate power states. This technology accounts for the longer battery life.
The prime highlight is, the laptop with the 1.5 GHz speed performs at a peak power of 12W, which is incredibly low. It comes with all the good features, according to the general requirement in the present scenario.
It includes a 15.4-inch, 1280-by-800 (WXGA) LCD display driven by Via's Unichrome Pro with Chromotion CE Video Display Engine and DiamondBrite technology.
Its pre-installed with Windows XP Home Edition, keeping costs low. Main memory is set at 512MB DDR2 SDRAM, while storage is taken care by the 60GB 4200-rpm PATA hard drive.
The laptop also supports wireless LAN 802.11b/g. Featuring PadLock Security Engine for added security, the NC1500 is equipped with a DVD+/-RW writer sporting dual-layer support. Display is handled by a VIA Unichrome Pro, and you get a 1280x800 (WXGA) pixel resolution.
Other goodies include integrated 56k modem and stunning looks.
Its definitely worth to keep it in options, especially when laptops are getting sold like hot cakes.
