Blinkx Site refurbished
Blinkx, the San Francisco startup company that builds search software products to allow searching and classification of audio files, video clips and streaming media, is all set to unmask the new version of its video search web site today.
The new version will allow the customers to have a TV like experience, as they will be able to watch clips and select search results from a wall of video thumbnails that show previews.
The modified version of the site will display the added channels on the right side of the screen, which will automatically generate lists of top stories under different categories like entertainment, sports, etc.
Previews of the listed items will automatically be played on the left side.
"We're helping people re-create that passive experience they get with television," said Suranga Chandratillake, chief technology officer and co-founder of Blinkx.
He explained when keywords will be entered in the search box, the results will appear on the right hand side and reviews will be played on the left side for eight seconds.
Typing the keywords in the search box and clicking on the ‘wall it’ option will display the top 25 results in thumbnails, instead of displaying it as a list. Each thumbnail will play the preview of the video.
The outside web sites and blogs can also be embedded with the ‘walled’ video search; the videos are dynamically updated as new-fangled content appears.
The modified Blinkx site also includes a playlist feature, which will allow the user to drag and drop their favourite result listings into an area on the screen temporarily. Users can also e-mail their lists to friends.
“Ultimately, we want to combine the ‘sit back and watch’ element of television with the interactive experience of watching video online,” said Suranga Chandratillake.
