Second Autopsy of Anna’s Son Proves Nothing
The second autopsy on the 20-year-old Daniel Smith, son of former reality TV star, Anna Nicole Smith, has revealed that he was on anti-depression medication. He had died under mysterious circumstances just three days after his celebrity mother gave birth to a daughter in the Bahamas.
Forensic pathologist Cyril Wecht, who conducted the second autopsy, however did not divulge whether the medication played any role in Daniel’s death or not. In fact he said that he was awaiting the toxicology tests to determine the cause of death. Both the autopsy reports indicate that there was no evidence that Daniel Smith died from a "suicidal overdose."
The psychiatrist who treated Daniel Smith informed that the depression "had to do with a girlfriend." and that the dosage of the antidepressant medication was "quite low". Moreover, Howard K. Stern, Anna Nicole Smith's attorney said, Daniel Smith had seemed to be in good spirits in the days before his death. Wecht told "He was delighted. He was happy to be there with his mother and his sister.”
The second autopsy has also proved to be inconclusive. Wecht has ruled out several potential natural causes including heart disease, stroke, or a congenital anomaly and said there was no indication of foul play. He said, "I don't find anything that would cause me to believe there is something in terms of some traumatic injury having been inflicted, or somebody having done something to him in some cryptic manner that could not be observed."
Anna had ordered the follow-up autopsy to end "media speculation surrounding the matter." As of now, things still remain uncertain. The toxicology results are expected this week, but the findings will not be released before a jury inquest scheduled for October 23.
The ambiguity of the second autopsy casts even more mystery on the shocking death. Now, the authorities will take testimony from everyone who had contact Daniel prior to his death, including that of Anna and her legal assistant Howard K. Stern, both of whom were in the room at Nassau's Doctors Hospital when Daniel was found dead.
Meanwhile, a hearse took Daniel’s remains from the morgue to a funeral home. Arrangements are being made to take the body to California.
