Student Psychology And Money

College days are the one of the most memorable and fun filled times in the life of a person. The knowledge and experience gained during this time goes a long way in building the future of these young innovative minds.

One of the things that really concern everybody at this tender age is “money”. Normally students get a fixed amount from their home, managing this amount and trying to utilize this amount often becomes a problem. With the ever increasing cost of living index, pressure from peers and inclination to spend on anything and everything from movies to food, from gifts to stationary etc. keeping in tune with the latest fashion trends and flaunting the latest gizmos might also be on the list of many, and of course then you have the never ending cell phone recharges!! Thus students often find themselves scratching their pockets for even the last penny!

Today there are many avenues for students to show their skills and talent. Learning and earning can go hand in hand. These avenues are being used effectively to earn some cash to fulfill the ever increasing demands and give themselves a sense of satisfaction and a feeling of being self sufficient. Working at fast food joints, serving ice cream at ice cream parlours etc gives the students much needed money along with some experience. All this also gives an opportunity to expand the horizons and look at the world outside. Other lucrative options include working with advertising companies and media, either print or electronic.

Another thing that should demand some focus is how a student can, without cutting on vital expenses feel at ease with the finances. Well, certainly not an easy question to answer. But a little smartness and logic might just be the trick. Pooling for transport cuts down expenses substantially. Getting habitual of things which generally do happen at college days (read drugs, booze etc ) should be kept as far as possible.

Believe it or not, in today’s world money is on the mind of everyone, students being no exception. The desire to jump on to the bandwagon and start earning has its both positives and negatives. If the prime objective becomes earning rather than learning, the entire exercise needs a re-check. It is easy to get carried away and it is also possible that they may be exploited, hence proper guidance is of utmost importance. All this will hence depend upon the mindset and thinking, which often takes shape during the childhood.

This trend is surely very common in the west, where students attend college during the day, work in the evenings and support themselves, without asking for financial support from the parents. Though not very common in this part of the world, now the trend is catching up fast and it is giving everyone a run for their money!
