US socialite and heiress Paris Hilton has been arrested and charged with drunk driving after attending a charity event in Los Angeles, reports from the US have said.
Hilton was arrested shortly before 12:30 a.m. in Hollywood, said police officer Irv Isabella. "The officers observed that Hilton exhibited the symptoms of intoxication. A field sobriety test was conducted at scene, and the officers determined she was driving under the influence," Isabella said, reading a police statement.
Hilton was booked on suspicion of misdemeanour DUI and released. Her spokesman, Elliot Mintz, confirmed the arrest and said police detected the minimum blood-alcohol level to warrant an arrest. The legal limit in California is 0.08 per cent.
"She's absolutely fine," Mintz said. "She didn't appear in the least bit to be intoxicated." Mintz continued.
At the time of her arrest, Hilton was driving home in her Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren from a charity event where she had one drink, a margarita, he said. She had spent the day shooting a music video for her new album, Paris.
The driving under the influence symptoms were "probably the result of an empty stomach and working all day and being fatigued," Mintz said.
Hilton's spokesman, Elliot Mintz, sister Nicky Hilton and Nicky's boyfriend, actor Kevin Connolly of TV's "Entourage," picked Paris up at the police station in Hollywood, according to The Associated Press.
Earlier this year a judge ordered Hilton to stay away from a Los Angeles party planner who accused her of bombarding him with angry phone calls, shoving him and threatening his life.
In June, Hilton had a fender-bender accident when her Range Rover backed into a car in a parking garage after a shopping trip.
The 25-year-old heiress to the Hilton hotel and real estate dynasty has achieved celebrity through saturation media coverage of her hard-partying lifestyle and a growing number of television appearances.
She is best known for her hit reality show "The Simple Life" and for a sex video that showed up on the Internet.
Lets hope life becomes a bit easier for Paris, in these hard days.
We're not even sure how high Paris can count.
