Suzlon signs105 MW deal worth Rs. 4.83 billion with EMG
Suzlon Wind Energy Corporation (SWECO), a Chicago, Illinois based subsidiary of Suzlon Energy (A/S), the Denmark-based international business headquarters of Asia's largest and the world's fifth largest wind turbine manufacturer, Suzlon Energy, has signed 105 MW deal worth 4.83 billion rupees ($104 million) with Edison Mission Group (EMG) for 50 units of Suzlon's S88-2.1 megawatt wind turbines.
The delivery of those wind turbines is expected to begin in mid-2007.
In a company statement, the Asia's strongest growing fully integrated wind power company, Suzlon said, “With signing of these orders, the company has a current consolidated order book position of Rs. 4587 crore, with Rs. 3787 crore in international orders and Rs. 800 crore in domestic orders.”
After the completion of the projects, Edison Mission Group, a subsidiary of Edison International, will get possession of over 400 MW of Suzlon wind turbine capacity in the United States.
Overwhelmed with the contract, Tulsi R Tanti, Chairman & Managing Director of Suzlon Energy Limited said, “Once again this repeat order bears testimony of customer confidence and further motivates us to expand our business.”
Just before this contract, on August 23, 2006 Suzlon Energy, Denmark (SEAS) bagged an order from Italy’s Maestrale Green Energy for 21 MW to be supplied in 10 units of Suzlon’s S88-2.1 mw turbine. SEAS has also grabbed an order from Tecneira - Tecnologias Energeticas, of Portugal for 39.9 mw of wind turbine capacity to be supplied in 19 units of the S88-2.1 mw wind turbine.
These two projects are expected to commence operation in the second quarter of year 2007.
On company’s deal with Irvine, California based EMG, Andris Cukurs, CEO of Suzlon Wind Energy Corporation said, “Edison Mission Group has, once again, chosen to extend its contract with Suzlon in the U.S.” he further added that “Naturally, we are quite pleased by this news. We will continue with our straightforward and honest business approach to ensure ongoing quality customer service for EMG.”
During the June’06 quarter, Suzlon Energy registered a rise of 221.91% in gross profit to Rs. 1936 million as compared with Rs. 601.40 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2005.
Suzlon's shares jumped 1.7 percent to 1,232.85 rupees yesterday in a firm Mumbai market.
