Largest LCD Screen By Samsung
Samsung Electronics is ready to unveil the world’s largest LCD screen at this week's International Meeting on Information Displays (IMD), 2006 in Daegu, Korea.
In addition to being the largest in the world, the Liquid Crystal Display Screen (LCD) measuring 70 inches (1.78 meters) diagonally also features conical viewing angle of 180 degrees for multi viewing audiences.
With this launch, Samsung will take away the glory from Sharp, who until now claimed to be the leader with an LCD screen measuring 65 inches (1.65 meters) diagonally to its credit. “With the development Samsung Electronics has taken the lead in the scramble for super-size LCD TV’s”, Samsung’s vice-President Kim Sang-Soo said.
The screen is designed with a high-definition LCD panel (1080p) which enables rapid moving video images to be reproduced with crystal clarity. Having a resolution of 1,920 pixels by 1,080 pixels qualifies it as a high-definition TV.
Moreover, the video signal is reproduced at 120Hz as compared to 60Hz offered by conventional models.
Kim Sang-Soo, Executive Vice President, Samsung Electronics stated, "Our new 70-inch LCD is not only significantly larger, but also sets a new benchmark of excellence in terms of video image reproduction, viewing angle and image quality. We've designed it to dramatically enhance the large screen LCD TV user's viewing experience."
The Officails at Samsung Electronics reported that the production of the screen will start sometime in the first quarter of 2007. Although the cost not specified, the screen is expected to be retailed for about $11,400.
