Haley Joel Osment in a hot soup

Haley Joel Osment, the child who saw dead people in Bruce Willis starrer ‘The Sixth Sense’ has been charged with drunken driving and possession of marijuana, after he banged his car last month into a mail box.

On Thursday, Osment was formally charged with these offences in Los Angeles.

The 18 year old Osment has violated the rules set by the police and it was found that he was driving with a .08 blood alcohol level. Marijuana was also recovered from him.

It was on July 20 that the drunken driver crashed his car, following a rib and shoulder injury, which was treated at a near by hospital. It is almost after a month that the actor is formally accused with allegations imposed on him.

The Oscar nominated actor will be produced before the court on September 19 and the district Attorney has fixed a bail of £8,000. If convicted, he could face six months in a county jail.

The spokeswomen of the office, Robinson said that though punishment is entirely in the hands of the court, but, Osment being a first time wrongdoer, should be sentenced to trial period and alcohol treatment, like any other first time DUI offenders.

Haley Joel Osment won accolades in the 1999 M. Night Shyamalan's ‘The Sixth Sense’. He was nominated for the Academy Award for his stirring role and stupefying performance in the movie.

The film with an unusual theme was appreciated world wide. He also appeared in the Steven Spielberg box office hit A.I. Osment’s next project is ‘Home of the Giants’, in which he plays a high school journalist.

Haley Joel Osment facing charges of drunk driving

So The kid who could see dead people is headed to court to face charges of drunk driving and pot possession. Cuteness counts you know -even if one is old enough (now) to have a five-o'clock shadow. All Osment has to do is flash that goofy smile of his, and the judge will give him a big fine and order him into -celebrity- drunk driving school. Osment can sit at the desk right next to Mel Gibson.
