India is witnessing a sharp growth in online population with total number of internet users, aged over 15 years, rising 7.8 per cent to 18.02 million in June 2006 from 16.71 million in March 2006, a latest survey from US-based technology research firm Comscore Networks shows.

It indicates that Indians are taking on to the World Wide Web in a big way swiftly surpassing the world, including major IT sources like the US, China, Japan and Germany, in terms of the online population growth.
Internet & Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) President Subho Ray said, “The growth is higher in India due to a low base. The high economic growth and rapidly growing mobile population along with low broadband rates are also boosting growth.”
After the survey, India has also grabbed the position of ninth biggest nation in terms of the total online population from its 10th position three months ago this year, while the US has retained its top spot with 153 million of web users. According to IAMAI, total Indian online population stands at 38 million users.
The augmentation in India's online population outscores the rise of 2.7% in the world's overall online audience size, which grew to 713 million in June, from 694 million in March this year.
The Comscore figures keep out the traffic from access through cyber cafes, mobile phones or PDAs. The overall number of people accessing internet could be much higher if those aged below 15 years and the public computer data and new-age mediums such as mobiles and PDAs are also taken into consideration.
The number of internet visitors grew less than 1% in the US, Germany, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands, while UK, France and Australia have actually posted a downfall from the March 2006 levels.
As per the Comscore June world metrix report published on Wednesday, China saw the second-biggest jump of 5.22%; Russia witnessed 5.14% growth, while online population of Japan, Korea, Canada and Brazil grew between 2%-4%.
Microsoft sites were rated as top web property globally in June with approximately 500 million visitors out of the total 713 million web users in the world. Yahoo and Google sites were ranked at second and third positions respectively with over 450 million visitors each in the month of June.
"While established internet players like Microsoft, Google and Yahoo have grabbed the top spots in worldwide ranking several upstarts have quickly found there way into the top league," comScore Europe Managing Director Bob Ivins said.

According to data compiled by Internet usage tracking firm comScore Networks, India had over 21 million Internet users aged over 15 years at the end of January, as against below 16 million a year ago.and the course mcse certification almost done by one million people in a year and its rate grow faster because of its good career opportunity.
While the US has retained its position being home to the world's biggest online population with over 153 million total Internet users, it registered a marginal growth of just two per cent in a year.
