Nokia, ATI join hands for Multimedia Developmentby MT Bureau - May 5, 2006 - 0 comments
Nokia and ATI have announced a strategic relationship to develop and enhance the multimedia experience on Nokia cell phones. The statement, released on Thursday, says the two companies will work jointly in the fields of music and video playback, 3D gaming and mobile TV. "Working with ATI underscores the commitment that Nokia has in providing unparalleled mobile multimedia experiences to consumers," said Ilkka Raiskinen, Senior Vice President, Multimedia Experiences, Nokia. "We are announcing our collaboration with ATI now, so that developers have the next 12 to 18 months to be innovative and create world class mobile multimedia experiences" he added The relationship will focus on development by promoting open standards and providing integrated hardware, software and tools so developers need only create content once for consumers to enjoy on range of devices. The announcement follows ATI’s acquisition of Bitboys Oy, a Finnish mobile graphics firm just a few days ago. ATI paid about $ 44 million in the deal, which sparked the speculations of a ATI-Nokia marriage since Nokia’s venture-capital arm holds 14 percent stake in Bitboys. |
