Blu Ray to hit Markets on May 23by MT Bureau - March 1, 2006 - 0 comments
World's number two consumer electronics manufacturer, Sony Corp. is ready to launch its Blue Ray Discs in the month of May. Some movies like 50 First dates, the Fifth Element, hitch and house of flying daggers will also accompany the launch. Much more movies will follow in the coming months. Retail cost of the movies will depend on the movie itself. Initially it could be at a price of $ 29.99 and 39.99. But exact cost only can be expected after they hit the stores. President of the Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE), Benjamin s Feingold, explained that SPHE and MGM Home entertainment will initially launch only eight BD Titles which include 50 First dates, The Fifth Element, XXX , Hitch , A Knight's Tale, The Last Waltz (MGM), Resident Evil Apocalypse and House of flying daggers. Other BD titles such as Kung Fu Hustle, Legends of the Fall, Robocop (MGM), Stealth, Species (MGM), SWAT and Terminator (MGM) will be released in the following month. Sony Corp. aims to deliver its Blue Ray Discs in the US stores by 23rd May. It is a Multibillion- Dollar Standards war between the Blue Ray and its rival HD DVD championed by Toshiba Corp. Other Supporting technology Companies of Toshiba Corp. which are making HD DVDs, are also planning to launch their movie titles and DVD Players in the month of March. Both the corporations are going to affect the $ 24 Billion Home video market by providing great capacity with best technology and features. Both Blu-ray and HD-DVD formats are implementing blue laser technology that provides better picture and sound quality, more interactive features, and larger amounts of storage. Samsung Electronics Ltd. is going to launch the Blue Ray disc player initially; Sony and Pioneer are also scheduled to release their Blue Ray disc players in the market soon. Pricing for its Gen-Next Blu-ray discs, announced by the Sony Pictures, indicates 20 percent increase over current prices with respect to new DVDs. |
