Symantec Takes Over Sygate to Secure Endpoints

Symantec announced today that it had acquired security start-up Sygate for an undisclosed sum it will pay in cash. Sygate makes "end point" tools that make certain all devices connecting to a network are compliant with administrator policies before access is granted.

Privately held Sygate employs about 300 people worldwide and has about 400 customers.

Symantec is also picking up some other capabilities in the Sygate deal. Sygate On-Demand Agent provides an agent that can be downloaded via SSL and portal connections.

This agent ensures that endpoints that are not company-owned or managed are in compliance with corporate security policies and that the transaction data itself is secure.
