Microsoft to Release 10 Patches on Tuesday
Microsoft has announced 10 updates for release on 14th June, out of which 7 are for the operating system, one is for Exchange servers and the rest of the two are for Windows services for Unix, ISA server and Small Business Server.
A webcast detailing the security vulnerabilities and their fixes will air Wednesday.
Microsoft has rated some of these updates as critical, meaning that the vulnerability could allow malicious code to spread without user action, but some critical vulnerabilities may be far less likely to be exploited than others, said Russ Cooper, senior scientist at Cybertrust Inc. and editor of the NT Bugtraq discussion list. Until Microsoft provides more details, it’s impossible to tell whether these updates will mitigate any significant security risks, he said.
Microsoft will also release an updated version of its Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool next Tuesday. This free on-line tool detects and removes known malicious code already placed on computers.
Steve Ballmer, chief executive officer of Microsoft expressed his concerns over people neglecting network security while talking to a news agency.
"I don’t want trepidation high, but on the other hand I want people aware of what’s going on and taking appropriate precautions," said Mr Ballmer.
He feared that anxiety about online safety may have declined a little too much in recent weeks.
