Duke LifePoint Healthcare acquires PMH

Duke LifePoint Healthcare, joint venture of Duke University Health System and LifePoint Hospitals, has acquired Person Memorial Hospital (PMH), a community hospital located in rural Person County, North Carolina.

The deal was finalized on Sept. 30 after review and approval by Attorney General of North Carolina, Duke LifePoint Healthcare and board of trustees of PMH confirmed.

As per the terms of agreement, Duke LifePoint will invest $15 million in capital improvements at PMH over the next 10 years. Of the total amount, $6 million will be spent within the next five years.

Other terms of agreement have yet not been disclosed.

Talking about the acquisition, William J. Fulkerson, Jr., MD, executive vice president of Duke University Health System, said, “I believe there are quality care and operational synergies that will result from Person Memorial's becoming a part of Duke LifePoint.”

Meanwhile, Robby Jones, chairman of PMH board of trustees, said, “Duke LifePoint brings new resources and capabilities to Person Memorial, which will strengthen the hospital and its ability to respond to the healthcare needs of people in this region."
