Roddick reaches Atlanta quarterfinals

Atlanta -- No. 1 seed Andy Roddick survived the loss of a second-set tiebreaker Thursday to top Rajeev Ram and reach the quarterfinals of the Atlanta Tennis Championships.

Lleyton Hewitt, however, became a second-round upset victim against Lukas Lacko.
Roddick, playing for the first time since he was knocked out in the fourth round at Wimbledon, defeated Ram 6-1, 6-7 (1-7), 6-3. He is seeking his third title of the year.

Roddick's quarterfinal opponent will be seventh-seeded Xavier Malisse, who cruised past Illya Marchenko 6-3, 6-3.

Hewitt, seeded third in this event, fell to Lacko 6-4, 6-2. Hewitt was also eliminated in the fourth round at Wimbledon after defeating Roger Federer in the finals to capture the Garry Weber Open.

Kevin Anderson earned a quarterfinal meeting with Lacko by ousting Donald Young in the day's other second-round match 7-5, 6-3.
