Glastonbury music fest under way

Glastonbury, England -- Performances at the Glastonbury music festival began Thursday at Worthy Farm in Somerset. England.

The BBC said all 140,000 tickets have been sold for the 40th edition of the event, which is to run through Sunday.

This year's lineup is to feature performances by Gorillaz, Muse, Stevie Wonder, Mos Def, Mark E. Smith, Shaun Ryder, De La Soul, Pharcyde, The Syrian National Orchestra, Gruff Rhys from Super Furry Animals, Dizzee Rascal, The Scissor Sisters, Faithless and Hot Chip.

Also on the bill are Snoop Dogg, Willie Nelson, Vampire Weekend, Pet Shop Boys, Paloma Faith, The Flaming Lips, Reef, Lightning Seeds, Norah Jones and former Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash.

U2 was slated to take the stage as well, but had to drop out after lead singer Bono was sidelined by a back injury.
