Toyota president to appear before panel

Washington -- Toyota's president says he has accepted an invitation to appear before a congressional committee -- after saying earlier he would send his top U.S. executive.

Akio Toyoda said in a statement, "I have received Congressman (Edolphus) Towns' invitation to testify before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform on February 24 and I accept."

"I look forward to speaking directly with Congress and the American people," he said, The Washington Post reported Friday.

The panel is investigating a string of vehicle recalls by Toyota Motor Co., the largest involving 2.3 million U.S. vehicles due to a problem with sticking gas pedals.

The committee also issued a subpoena ordering former Toyota attorney Dimitrios Biller to turn over "all documents related to … Toyota's handling of alleged motor vehicle defects and related litigation."

Biller contends Toyota kept incriminating data secret to prevent the information from being used against it in court, the newspaper said.

Unknown Dangers

Toyota & Honda dropped the ball on handling the recalls , they should have came forward with a full disclosure. Instead of waiting for a huge media blitz and tons of public pressure. But Toyota & Honda are not alone , I never seen so many car companies having recalls all at the same time. I had no idea my car which is not even a Toyota or Honda, was affected until I found I had a bad Anti Lock control unit on my 2008 Pontiac G8 , So be careful check daily, it seems more and more cars are being recalled .
