Peete wants full apology from Mayer

Los Angeles -- U.S. actress Holly Robinson Peete says she wants singer John Mayer to take responsibility for "racially denigrating comments" he made in an interview.

Peete, 45, said while Mayer did apologize to her for referencing her in the same Playboy interview containing the questionable comments, the "Continuum" singer never apologized for his comments, People.com reported Friday.

Peete, known for her roles in "21 Jump Street" and "Love, Inc.," admitted she was flattered by Mayer lauding her looks in the interview.

"It's crucial for African-American women to understand that I would never knowingly gush about such a compliment had I had any clue that it was bookended by these racially denigrating comments about black women. I feel disgusted by it. I went from flattered to flat-out pissed," she told People magazine exclusively.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for Mayer reiterated the singer's stance regarding the controversial interview.

"On Wednesday, John apologized for his remarks via Twitter and again in public that night. His remorse is genuine and he has expressed sincere regret for all of his word choices," said the spokesman, whose identity was not released.

National study on Mayer Apology

MediaCurves.com conducted a series of national media studies to obtain Americans’ ratings of celebrity apologies in 2009 and 2010. Results found that that John Mayer’s apology for his statements in an interview with Playboy was rated the lowest in regard to perceived sincerity levels. Also, the majority of viewers (88%) thought it was inappropriate to use the “N” word during Mayer’s interview with Playboy
