NHL: Dallas 3, Colorado 2

Dallas -- Mike Modano's second goal of the game gave Dallas the lead 7:01 into the third period Friday and the Stars held on to edge Colorado 3-2.

Modano, the all-time leading American-born goal scorer in the NHL with 555, helped bring the Stars within two points of the final playoff position in the Western Conference. Dallas has won three out of four.

Modano gave Dallas a 2-1 lead 7:55 into the contest by scoring on a wraparound shot, but T.J. Galiardi tied it midway through the second period. The veteran Dallas center won it by putting a slapshot past Craig Anderson, who had been victorious in his previous six starts.

Alex Auld, who has replaced Marty Turco as the No. 1 goaltender in Dallas, stopped 24 shots.

Colorado suffered its second loss in as many nights after winning six in a row.
