Los Angeles Lakers visit White House

Washington -- The NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers visited the White House Monday and gave President Barack Obama a team jersey bearing his name.

Lakers star Kobe Bryant, the Most Valuable Player in last season's NBA championship series, presented the yellow jersey to the president, who is a big basketball fan. The jersey displays a "1" beneath Obama's name.

Guard Derek Fisher gave the president a signed basketball.

The Lakers beat the Orlando Magic in five games in June for their 15th NBA title and the 10th overall for their coach, Phil Jackson, who guided the Chicago Bulls to six titles with superstar Michael Jordan.

Obama, a longtime Bulls' fan, congratulated Jackson and the Lakers and put in a plug for the Bulls.

"I want to congratulate (Jackson) on his 10th NBA Championship, the most in history. I do want to point out that six of them came with the Bulls," said Obama, who lived in Chicago before he became president.

Obama announced the NBA Players Association is donating $1 million for earthquake-ravaged Haiti.
