Producers name 'Locker' best film of '09

Los Angeles -- "The Hurt Locker" was named the best film of 2009 by the Producers Guild of America at a ceremony in Los Angeles Sunday night.

The award was presented to the Iraq war movie's producers -- director Kathryn Bigelow, screenwriter Mark Boal, Nicholas Chartier and Greg Shapiro, Variety said.

Also in the running for the guild's top film prize were "Avatar," "An Education," "District 9," "Inglourious Basterds," "Invictus," "Precious," "Star Trek," "Up" and "Up in the Air."

In the past, the PGA winner has been the same as Oscar's best picture winner 13 out of 20 times. "Slumdog Millionaire" earned both prizes last year.

Oscar nominations for 2009's films are to be announced Feb. 2.
