The Cougars led 35-34 at the half, and followed a 48-44 deficit with an insurmountable 61-50 lead on Jonathan Tavernari's 3-pointer with 6:18 remaining.
Tyler Haws scored 17, while Chris Miles added six points and seven rebounds for the Cougars (20-1, 5-0), who have won 15 in a row.
Kawhi Leonard led San Diego State with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
D.J. Gay scored 12, and Chase Tapley added 11 with three rebounds and three assists for the Aztecs (14-6, 3-3), who have split their last four games.
They won the rebounding battle 34-31, but shot just 40.3 percent to BYU's 45 percent.
