Federer, Davydenko advance in Melbourne

Melbourne -- World No. 1 Roger Federer and sixth-seeded Nikolay Davydenko coasted into the fourth round Saturday at the Australian Open.

Federer, seeking his 16th major title, reached the round of 16 in a Grand Slam event for the 23rd straight time. He ousted Albert Montanes 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 and will meet either Lleyton Hewitt or Marcos Baghdatis in his next match.

Davydenko needed less than 2 hours to defeat Juan Monaco 6-0, 6-3, 6-4 and will next face either Fernando Verdasco or Stefan Koubek.

Lukasz Kubot also advanced to the fourth round Friday when No. 20 seed Mikhail Youzhny withdrew because of a wrist injury.
