Microsoft to release IE patch

Seattle -- Microsoft Corp. announced Tuesday it is releasing an emergency patch to prevent hackers from carrying out the kinds of attacks Google experienced in China.

The company did not say when the patch would be delivered, Computerworld reported. Instead, it said shipping information will be available Wednesday.

"Given the significant level of attention this issue has generated, confusion about what customers can do to protect themselves and the escalating threat environment, Microsoft will release a security update
out-of-band for this vulnerability," George Stathakopoulos, general manager of Microsoft's Trustworthy Computing Security group, said on a company blog.

Google has said hackers were trying to get access to e-mail accounts of Chinese dissidents. The hackers exploited vulnerabilities in Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser.
