Graham Hatch added 14 points and Gabe Blair had nine for Wichita State (17-3), which has won six of its last seven games.
Jordan Eglseder scored 14 points for Northern Iowa, which had won 15 consecutive games coming into Tuesday's contest. Adam Koch and Kwadzo Ahelegbe both scored 11 points.
Northern Iowa (16-2) trailed 29-17 at halftime, but scored the first 10 points of the second half to reduce the gap to two points. The Panthers stuck close but a 9-3 run late in the second half gave the Shockers some breathing room.
The Panthers were 20-of-48 from the field and a futile 2-of-13 from 3-point range.
Wichita State wasn't much better from behind the 3-point line (3-for-18) and was 22-of-55 from the field. The Shockers, however, hit 13-of-17 free throws while Northern Illinois was 9-of-14.
