U.K. twins turn 102 on New Year's Day

London -- Britain's oldest twins, Betty Richards and Jenny Pelmore, celebrated birthday No. 102 on New Year's Day with family and friends.

The doctor who delivered them in Manchester, England, arrived on horseback Jan. 1, 1908, when King Edward VII was on the throne, the Daily Express reported Friday.

Jenny and Betty, both widowed, live near each other in Cornwall. Betty, a secretary, married Brandon Richards in 1936 and had two children. Jenny was a teacher who married Hugh Pelmore, an RAF pilot who also raced Bentleys, the newspaper said.

Others may make their age an issue, but it's not for Jenny.

"We never think about our age much," she said.

"Life is much faster now but the only thing I don't understand is computers," Betty added.

The secret to longevity is simple, Jenny said: "Having a busy life and not sitting still for too long is the key. The secret is to keep smiling and keep going."
