Timberland children's boots recalled

Washington -- Thousands of pairs of Timberland children's boots are being recalled because there may be too much lead in logos stamped on them, a U.S. watchdog agency says.

About 21,000 pairs of Classic Scuffproof Boots were imported from Thailand by The Timberland Co. of Stratham, N.H., and sold nationwide from June through October for between $50 and $70 a pair.

The boots insoles include a stamped logo that exceeds federal standards for lead, a toxic substance, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said in announcing the voluntary recall.

The boots are wheat colored and were sold in toddler and junior sizes. They include model numbers 34772, 34872 and 34972, which can be found on a white label inside the boot.

Consumers were advised to take the boots from children and contact Timberland for free replacement insoles.

Consumers can call 800-445-5545 for information.
