The U.S. Energy Information Administration said Wednesday crude oil supplies had dropped by 3.7 million barrels to 332.4 million barrels in the week ending Dec. 11. Gasoline inventories rose, but only slightly, to 217.2 million barrels.
On the New York Mercantile Exchange, crude oil prices gave up 19 cents to $72.73 per barrel. Heating oil prices fell Thursday, down 0.0186 cents to $1.9472 per gallon. Reformulated gasoline prices dropped 0.0234 cents to $1.8505 per gallon. Natural gas prices added 0.296 cents to $5.758 per million British thermal units.
At the pump, the national average price of unleaded gasoline was $2.59 per gallon Thursday, down from Wednesday's $2.594, AAA said.
