Corn harvest tops 90 percent complete

Washington -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture said the corn harvest in the 18 largest corn-producing states was 92 percent completed as of Dec.3.

The weekly crop report, winding down for the 2009 growing season, put the harvest at 100 percent complete in North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. Ten other states reported the harvest was at least 90 percent done. Four were at least 80 percent done, while North Dakota lagged behind with 60 percent of the corn harvest done.

Similarly, the cotton harvest for 2009 is 91 percent done in the 15 largest cotton-producing states -- 100 percent done in four states, at least 79 percent done in nine other states, but only 59 percent done in Kansas and only 61 percent done in Oklahoma.
