Some Heinz baby food recalled in Canada

Ottawa -- The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning the public not to use some Heinz Mixed Cereal for Babies because of possible contamination.

The CFIA said Heinz Canada of North York, Ontario, initiated a voluntary recall of the cereal because it might contain elevated levels of Ochratoxin A -- a mycotoxin produced by fungi that can grow in food crops such as grains, grapes and coffee beans and is a possible human carcinogen.

The CFIA said the recalled Heinz Mixed Cereal, intended for Stage 2 babies from 6 months of age, displays code "BB/MA 10 DE 26" or "BB/MA 10 DE 29" on the top left hand corner of the package. It was distributed nationally.

"If you have the products bearing the identified product code in your home, they should not be consumed in order to minimize your child's exposure," the CFIA said in a statement. "However, if your children have already consumed this food, then there is no need for other actions since even the highest levels of ochratoxin A found in these products are not high enough to pose a health risk when consumed as part of a normal diet over the short term."

Shame on Heinz!!!!

I find it completely unacceptable that Heinz could have a screw up like this. The reason I choose to feed me baby Heinz is because of the name and that they bought out Pablum.
We are a country that should be able to survive on our own manpower and food grown locally instead of taking the cheap
way out and subcontracting to other countries whom have higher levels of disease because of the conditions of their dirty infested environments. Why is it so hard to grow locally and control what goes from the crop to our mouths!!!
Shame on you Heinz now that I have thrown out everything that I have purchased from you I am personally boycotting you and hope that many-many others follow suit! How dare you think that you can endanger our babies and their healthy future!!!
BOYCOTT HEINZ and all their products!!! Wake Industry up that this in UNACCEPTABLE!!! We as consumers should not have to tolerate it NOR should we!!! SHAME ON HEINZ!!!!

Heinz baby food

I would never purchase factory-made baby food. Our two children are happy and healthy and have always eaten what we eat. Once they could handle solid food in addition to breast-feeding, they were fed mostly congee, a slow-cooked rice porridge that is a staple in the Chinese diet (my wife is Chinese). Eventually they enjoyed eating the same food as the adults, well minced before their teeth developed. Stay away from processed foods--not a big deal to prepare your own and your children will do just fine.
