Apple accuses Nokia of patent infringement

Wilmington, Del. -- Apple Inc. alleged Friday in a U.S. District Court of Delaware filing that Finland's Nokia communications corporation infringed on 13 Apple patents.

The U.S. technology company alleges Nokia copied Apple smartphone technologies regarding functions such display graphics, power conversation, teleconferencing and real-time signal processing, InformationWeek reported.

"Nokia needs access to Apple's intellectual property because Nokia has copied and is now using that patented technology," Apple alleges.

"Nokia chose to copy the iPhone, especially its enormously popular and patented design and user interface," the company added in its filing.

Apple's filing is seeking unspecified damages and a court order preventing Nokia from providing their products with the allegedly copied technologies.

The Apple suit is a countersuit to litigation filed by Nokia against Apple in October. InformationWeek said Nokia alleged in its suit that Apple infringed on 10 of Nokia's patents involved with wireless technology.
