The final episode of the popular series aired Friday. Tony Shaloub starred in the show for eight seasons as a brilliant private detective who suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder.
More than 25,000 fans sent more than 33,000 goodbye messages, and some of the messages appeared in a rolling scroll at the bottom of the TV screen during the marathon Sunday.
"By leveraging the Text-to-TV technology, the 'Farewell Marathon' enabled our fans to express their gratitude, love and devotion with the larger 'Monk' community in a way that was both meaningful to them and us," Alexandra Shapiro, senior vice president of brand, marketing and digital at USA Network, said in a statement.
