Eccleston to play Lennon in TV movie

London -- Christopher Eccleston will portray slain British rock 'n' roll star John Lennon in an upcoming television movie, the BBC announced.

Eccleston is best known for his work on TV's "Cracker," "Doctor Who" and "Heroes," as well as in the movies "Shallow Grave" and "Amelia."

His new 90-minute television drama "Lennon Naked" will focus on the death of Beatles manager Brian Epstein, Lennon's blossoming relationship with Yoko Ono and his departure from the band that made him famous, the British broadcaster said.

"Securing Christopher Eccleston to play John Lennon is further testament to the caliber of drama on BBC Four," said Ben Stephenson, controller of BBC drama commissioning.
