COL BKB: Butler 67, Northwestern 54

Evanston, Ill. -- Shelvin Mack and Gordon Hayward made 3-point shots to finish off a 12-point, second-half run Wednesday that vaulted No. 10 Butler past Northwestern 67-54.

The Bulldogs have opened the season with two victories and Northwestern has split its first two contests.

Mack finished with 15 points and eight assists. Hayward had 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Butler held a narrow lead through most of the first half and grabbed a six-point advantage at intermission. The Bulldogs did not pull away, however, until they rattled off 12 straight points to take a 44-26 lead early in the second half.

Michael Thompson scored 16 for Northwestern, which opened its season Friday with a win over Northern Illinois.
