Colin Durrant, a spokesman for the Executive Office of Transportation, said a truck carrying sides of beef flipped onto its side on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Weston at about 2:30 a.m. and State Police decided to waive tolls during the morning commute to ease congestion caused by the thousands of pounds of meat on the road, The Boston Globe reported Monday.
Investigators said they have not yet determined the cause of the crash, which involved three tractor trailers and a car. No major injuries were reported as a result of the crash.
Durrant said crews salted and sanded the road after the beef was removed to ensure residue from the meat did not make the road too slippery for safe driving.
