Man suing over old Yankee Stadium seats

New York -- A New Jersey man alleges in a lawsuit against a memorabilia company that the old Yankee Stadium seats he purchased were unfairly altered.

New Jersey resident John Lefkus alleges in his lawsuit against Steiner Sports when he purchased two Yankee Stadium seats for $2,000, he expected to receive the worn seats in which he spent 23 years cheering on the New York Yankees, the New York Post said Monday.

Instead, Lefkus alleges, the seats from the former MLB stadium were repainted with a different blue paint and the seats' original armrests had been replaced.

"I feel like the steroid stars. My seats come with an asterisk," Lefkus, 52, said. "My boys grew up in these seats from boys to teenagers to men. We had them for 23 years."

The Post said Lefkus filed his $5 million federal class-action lawsuit on behalf of loyal Yankees fans who purchased their former Yankee Stadium seats after the site closed in 2008.

Steiner Sports owner Brandon Steiner maintains the seats' original paint was removed because of lead concerns, while the armrests were not tagged along with seat backs and bottoms.
