Wilfredo Rodriguez, 44, said he noticed noises coming from the engine of his 2005 Nissan Murano as he drove through the Bronx borough Monday and discovered a cat's paw and tail sticking out of the front end of the truck, the New York Daily News reported Tuesday.
Rodriguez dialed 911 and police detectives Jeffrey King and Kris Cataldo arrived on the scene shortly after 2 p.m. Police said the detectives were able to free the cat by removing the SUV's battery and a few other parts under the hood.
A spokesman for New York City Animal Care & Control, where the cat was taken, said it "appeared to be in good shape."
Police said they do not know who owns the cat or how it ended up inside the engine.
