Woods's win put the U.S. team over the top and the Americans later ended up with a final margin of 19 1/2 to 14 1/2 at Harding Park in San Francisco.
The world's No. 1 player, who finished 5-0 in the competition, avenged his defeat by Yang in the PGA Championship this summer.
"All I knew was that I had to try and get my point," Wood said after his match.
Fred Couples, the U.S. captain, said he "couldn't be happier for him and for me to have him win the point."
The cup matches have been played eight times and the United States has six wins.
Other U.S. winners in singles matches included Hunter Mahan (2-and-1 over Camilo Villegas), Stewart Cink (4-and-3 over Adam Scott), Anthony Kim (5-and-6 over
Robert Allenby) and Sean O'Hair (6-and-4) over Ernie Els.
The International team's Tim Clark downed Zach Johnson 4-and-3 , Geoff Ogilvy defeated Steve Stricker 2-and-1, Ryo Ishikawa was a 2-and-1 winner over Kenny
Perry and Angel Cabrera topped Jim Furyk 4-and-2.
Justin Leonard of the U.S. team and Mike Weir halved their match.
