Braemar Gathering organizers said more than 15,000 people, including the British royal family members, were on hand Saturday for the Scottish event that featured Highland Games like the tug of war and the tossing of the caber, The Sunday Telegraph reported.
In addition to Queen Elizabeth II, the event drew Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh, along with the royal couple's lone daughter, Princess Anne and her husband Tim Laurence.
Saturday's event also included performances by the Highland dancers and 11 pipe bands, the Telegraph said.
The Braemar Gathering is held annually on the first Saturday of September and the queen serves as the event's patron.
"We see lots of the royal family in magazines, so it's interesting to see them in person today," event attendee Isabella Schwaighofer said of the queen's appearance Saturday.
