Wozniacki wins women's Pilot Pen final

New Haven, Conn. -- Second-seeded Caroline Wozniacki beat unseeded Elena Vesnina 6-2, 6-4 to capture Saturday's women's final at the Pilot Pen tennis tournament.

The event was a warm-up prior to the start of the U.S. Open Monday at Flushing Meadow, N.Y.

Following a lengthy rain delay at New Haven, Conn., the native of Odense, Denmark, needed just 76 minutes to win her third title this season and sixth of her career.

Saturday's final was supposed to unfold outdoors on the hard courts at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale University, but the persistent rain forced officials to move it inside to the Cullman-Heyman Courts.

Wozniacki claimed a $98,500 champion's check.

Vesnina, who has never won a title in her career, fell to 1-3 lifetime against Wozniacki.
