MLB: Detroit 8, Minnesota 7

Detroit -- Miguel Cabrera and Marcus Thames homered Sunday, boosting Detroit to an 8-7 win over Minnesota.

Thames hit a solo homer, his 12th, in the fourth and Cabrera added a two-run shot in the fifth.

Placido Polanco had three hits and one RBI. Gerald Laird and Ramon Santiago also drove in runs. Carlos Guillen had three hits for the Tigers, who won twice in the three-game series.

The winner was reliever Brandon Lyon (5-4). Closer Fernando Rodney earned his 23rd save despite Michael Cuddyer's solo homer in the ninth.

Cuddyer hit two homers with four hits and three RBI.

Alexi Casilla had two RBI, while Mike Redmond had three hits and one RBI, and Delmon Young drove in a run for the Twins, who have split their last four games.
The losing pitcher was reliever Matt Guerrier (5-1).
