Protest mars screening of Kadeer film

Melbourne -- A festival screening in Australia of a documentary about exiled Uighur leader Rebiya Kadeer reportedly was the target of a protest by pro-Uighur demonstrators.

The Australian Broadcasting Corp. said several demonstrators waited for Kadeer outside Saturday's screening of the film "10 Conditions of Love" at the Melbourne International Film Festival.

Kadeer insists while the Chinese government attempts to portray her as a terrorist, she is actually focused on achieving peace.

"I'm a mother, I'm a woman of peace, I have always been peacefully struggling for the freedom and human rights of the Uighur people, I will continue to do so peacefully, until the day when my people become free," said Kadeer, who added the documentary about her life story is not political in nature.

Jeff Daniels, who directed "Conditions," told ABC he unsuccessfully attempted to contact the Chinese government regarding his film's take on Kadeer.

"I've been trying for the past two and a half years to try and hear this side, and I've only been hitting walls," Daniels said.

Ah, you make stuff up!

The film- which is where this started- took 7 yrs to make. And was due to be screened well before 5th july this year. Kadeer was promoted as being available for public Q and A at the film months ago.

There was no sudden rush to have her in Australia.

When will a Chinese diplomat make themselves available for public scrutiny. The film maker spent years asking for a comment on the film- no answer.

If you really want to hear what she has to say and the how australain journaists operate then tune into the press club speech tomorrow- go to abc.net.au press club, I am pretty sure that it will be online.

In the following report from

In the following report from the Australian, it says, "AFTER the deadline had passed for contributions to the Melbourne International Film Festival, director Richard Moore received a submission from the makers of "a little, 55-minute Aussie doco"." Which prove that australian sudden rush to have her in Australia.

More than a hundresd people

More than a hundresd people died in the Xinjing Riot just a month ago, any most of the Chinese people believe that the Uighur congress headed by kadeer is behind the riot, and australian suddenly invited her to the the country with such a high attitude, there is no interpretation other than
intentionally provocation to the Chinese people.
China need australia's resource to develop it's econimy, but only with reasonable price, economically and politically, if the counrty use illigal measure to hike the price of minerals, using the profit gain from trade with china to buy millitary equipement against china, collusion with the Uiqher Separatists to challenge the fundamental interest of chinese people, they should not consider business as usuall, and they should be prepared for the consiquence.

Now I inderstand!. Showing a

Now I inderstand!. Showing a film in melbourne is all some cunning plan to gain LEVERAGE in China , over what? Gas export prices? Iron ore export prices?

Are you bonkers?

That film would have screened to 20 people and a dog if the CCP hadnt charged in like paranoid nutcases.

Clearly Iron Ore prices are controlled by the spies in internation companies stealing state secrets!

Please dont hyperinflate the issue of one film with all that may not be going to the plans of the CCP. It is becoming very obvious that to get the support of the CCP one has to do every thing that they want- even if it is counter to our laws, culture, traditions. The only reason not to screen the film would be to avoid a confrontation with a big screaming, hyperventilating bully.

Not the basis for international relations

Kadeer is in the back of

Kadeer is in the back of Uighur seperatists, and those Uighur seperatists are terrorists, they bomb buses in chinese cities, kill innocent people like they did on July 5, they trained in the Al-Qada's camp in afganistan, and some of them caught by the US during their fighting with Taliban.
The austalian intentionally ignore the facts, and try to gain from mess, What the australian are doing is merely showed that they are desprate to find a leverage to china, where they fialed to select the one. the only leverage to china is to gain the chinese people's support, and the australian are doing the opposit, CCP will get utimate support to do harsh to the country when they needed.

Shine a little light

I don't think anyone wants an enemy in China, as the Chinese people are hard working and friendly. However, I am not so sure about the CCP and their secret police.

Eventually the Chinese communist party thugs will have to grow up and learn that although the secret police in China are able to silence free speech and smear and lock up their opponents, they can't control the rest of the world. If you think the documentary is full of lies make your own film and explain what the lies are. So far all we have had from the communists are the usual 'strong arm threats' and paranoid claims that the world hates China.

If there is nothing to hide why all the secrecy? Why not invite in lots of foreign journalists and let them find out who is telling truth.

Who says who is a

Who says who is a terrorist?!
Dont you get it that the way China acts ruins any credibility it has in calling the Uighurs terrorists?
The outrageous threats of film bans, transparent attempts to bully the lord mayor of Melbourne, withdrawl of sister city status, warnings to the Australian ambassador to China. Clearly the Australian government DOESNT believe the claims that Kadeer is a terrorist- they granted her a visa.
Zhu, there are other sourcce of information then those from the CCP. Read some.
.
Enemy of china?, Hold your horses! Its a film, I've seen it , It is balanced. Its not illegal to show the film. For this " an enemy of China"? . Your response sounds too much like all the blundering efforts the CCP has made in trying to stop the film.
.
Ah, the Aborigine arguement! In case you havent noticed, the Australian PM apologised to the aborigines for past mistreatment. Practical efforts continue. There is NO DENIAL about what has happened to the aborigines- unlike the DENIAL han china appears to have about the reality of the plight of the Uighurs and their land.
.
"fair is fair"??!! Funny but that is what all the uighurs and Tibetans are asking for . Fair dialogue, A fair criminal justice system. Fair educations system, fair access to their own lands , resources, language and religeon. Fair would be showing the residents of the old city of kashgar where they are going to live once the homes have been bulldozed. Fair would be allowing independant journalists the opportunity to verify the claims of the uighurs and the CCP alike. A "fair" playing field would be a very good start.

China Bashing Propaganda

If the Aussies wish to have an enemy in China and the Chinese, it is your perogative. Supporting and harboring terrorists, no matter who the terrorist is acting against, will have consequences. Those who dish it out better be ready to take it. Fair is fair.

I don't see Aussies supporting giving back the homeland to the aborigines, do you? Hypocrites all.

protesting outside this film

protesting outside this film did not "mar" the opening. Protesting is legal, it was peaceful and it enhances the importance of the films subject. It also highlights the authoritarian apporoach of China in the interal matters of a foreign country and has shown the CCPs poor credibilty on anything that it claims about Uighurs and events in Xinjiang.
