No one scored despite a combined 26 shots -- 15 by the Sounders (7-3-8) and 11 by the Fire (7-3-8), while the contest left both teams with identical records in the Eastern and Western Conference, respectively.
It turned into a 10-on-10 game after two red card ejections -- one each -- in the first half.
Chicago, the leader in the East, fell to 5-1-4 away from home, but retained the best road record in the MLS by earning a valuable point.
The Sounders held on to second place in the West, four points behind front-running Houston, and are unbeaten in their last six league contests.
