Fred Funk leads the Senior British Open

Sunningdale, England -- Fred Funk shot 5-under-par 65 Friday, giving him a three-stroke lead and a record 36-hole total of 11-under 129 at the Senior British Open golf tournament.

The 65 followed a 64 Thursday, which gave the former University of Maryland golf coach a record first-round total on the Old Course at the Sunningdale (England) Golf Club.

"I don't feel like I shot 65," said Funk, who leads Sam Torrance (65) heading into Saturday's third round. "It's just the way it all added up at the end."

Loren Roberts (68), the 2006 champion, is 6-under 134 in third place.

An afternoon thunderstorm forced a two-hour weather delay, and the round was suspended by darkness with 18 players left on the course.

They will finish their second rounds Saturday morning.

Others in contention at the second Champions major this season are Tom Watson, Greg Norman, Tom Kite and Jay Haas.
