Tursunov, who won the tournament in 2007 and was runner-up last year, moved on by defeating Berrer 6-3, 2-6, 6-0 and will face the winner of Wednesday's match between American Taylor Dent and Marcos Daniel of Brazil.
Tursonov, who lost at Wimbledon in the first round, admitted to being rusty in his first match in about three weeks, but Berrer helped out with 16 double-faults.
Also advancing Tuesday was No. 2 seed Dudi Sela. The Israeli knocked off American Vince Spadea 7-5, 6-1.
The fourth seed, Russian Igor Kunitsyn, and fifth seed, German Benjamin Becker, also advanced.
