Edwards, in his Ford Fusion, beat Kyle Busch's Toyota to the checkered flag for his first Nationwide victory this season, after beginning the race from the back of the pack of 43 drivers.
Brad Keselowski (Chevrolet) was third, pole winner Erik Darnell (Ford) fourth and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (Ford) completed the top-five finishers.
"It was too good to be true," Edwards said during a post-race television interview.
In the latest Nationwide standings, Saturday's victory helped Edwards trim 10 points off the lead of Busch, who has compiled 2,391 points to 2,264 for Edwards.
"We just didn't keep up with the track, I guess," Busch said. "Carl beat us out there fair and square."
Keselowski (-218), Jason Leffler (-264) and Joey Logano (-531) round out the top-five in the latest standings.
