Lambert, 27, recently disclosed his sexuality in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine.
The Boston Globe reported that while other celebrities have disclosed their homosexuality after becoming popular, Lambert is one of the first to do so just as he is beginning his life as a rock star.
"There is something very contemporary about it -- the fact that he is speaking openly about his sexuality, defusing it at a very early point in his career, making his calculation that he is going to be able to be a big success," Tavia Nyong'o, a professor of performance studies at New York University who studies race and sexuality in the arts, told the Globe. "He's doing something very new and uncharted in pop culture."
Freya Jarman-Ivens, a lecturer in music at the University of Liverpool and
the editor of "Oh Boy! Masculinities and Popular Music," noted gay pop stars such as Elton John, Clay Aiken and George Michael generally behave differently on stage than traditional rock stars do.
"They're never alpha-male types," Jarman-Ivens told the newspaper. "I think it's because they're calling to a young female audience. They have to walk a fine line culturally speaking, between being very attractive to the female audience and not being threatening."
"There's always been something very interesting and sexy about a man who can rock eyeliner and heels and is also a brilliantly talented artist," added Rosie Lopez, vice president of Tommy Boy Records.

I think it was a very smart move by Adam to get this out first and pave the way to get on with his music without the juvenile hype of is he or isn't he grabbing the headlines. Adam's so sexy...
Yes, he is! I'm in my 40s, Asian and knew he was gay from day one but I still giggle like a little girl when I watch him sing/talk. He kind of flaunt his sexy attributes naturally on stage - that's why it's so appealing to a lot of women. The thought about him being gay never crosses my mind at all when Adam's on stage. He's got this really infectous laugh which portrays him being naive and vulnerable at the same time. I know that I just want to give Adam a big and warm hug if I ever get to meet him. Adam actually brought sexy back to music although JT sang it first.

I can't pinpoint it....but it makes me feel all gooey inside..his sparkly blue eyes, his exuberant personality, his voice, his sexy moves, his pout, his smile...there's not one thing I don't like about him..he's funny, childlike and mature at the same time, down-to-earth, honest, not pretentious...he is who he claims he is...Adam is Adam, no more no less..Adam just being Adam is so lovable.

There is something in Adam Lambert that appeals to a lot of women. I am 50 ys. old and I havent felt like this with other male singers. Not a day passes that I dont open my computer and read about Adam. Adam is now part of my life, my excitement. You are right, I used the wrong word ("preference"). The point I was trying to get across was that he is an extremely talented performer and that is what he should be known as - period. His sexiness and charisma are part of his package, no one can deny that, but the bottom line is that only potential bed partners should be the least bit interested in anything else about his private life. And I only added that last bit about the .01% to be funny, I didn't mean to offend anyone. (I'm a 52-year old Western Canadian woman in a happy life)

I am reading some of the blogs, and am trying to figure out why it is that so many women are talking about hooking up with this young man. Regardless of his sexual orientation, let's be real, if you are really a fan of this young man, just admire him for his overall beauty, and stop thinking about hooking up with him. He has millions of fans, and he's one person, and it is troubling to think that you would be thinking of ever have a chance to sleep with him.
Let's just enjoy Adam's unique spirit and talent, and look forward to him having an incredible career, and entertaining us for a long time. Discovering him was the most exciting thing to happen for me in years, and I am going to enjoy the ride. I admire this young man and his brilliance.
I am a 61 year old female in New England, and for the first time ever I bought a ticket to see the Idol tour at the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston, and this is mainly because of Adam.

Just an fyi...in today's world the phrase is "sexual orientation" instead of "sexual preference"... as I understand it, heterosexuals did not choose, and neither do gay and lesbian folks. Who would choose being taunted and ridiculed? Finally medical groups have come to realize that being gay or lesbian is the basic orientation of that person.

I do agree with Adam on celeb's life. they don't have the choice to avoid all kinds of gossip about their private life. He has been open gay for so many years, if he chose to pretend he is straight or kept people speculating, he would be hounded again and again and again, that would definitely not the situation he want. He want to be a singer, so he would rather all the supporters focus on his music. he wants to be accepted as himself rather than a fake identity, so he chose to be honest to the public, about everything. He has the bottom-line, he cares about his future, but the basic is, he has to be himself, he don't have to hide. why he dares to show the truly himself to the public? because in nature, he is an honest nice guy. I don't whether everyone has read the rolling stone article, but his honesty obviously shocked the author because they just want to gave him the cover based on his talent and said "better have sth. freaking good", while then, bang! he just told everything. He is true to himself, he is " a genuinely free-spirited, easygoing flower child who prizes love over money, peace over power". I respect his sincerity and courage. He chose to be himself, that's all.

Sexy is sexy and Adam Lambert is sexy but he has talent unlike many others and hopefully those two great parts of being a star are not overshadowed by this rather voyueristic fasination with his private sex life.

Adam Lambert has a plus
Adam Lambert has a plus factor that rarely comes along. Not only is he amazingly talented, but he is exceptionally charismatic. Call it sexy, call it beautiful, call it totally charming, the man is hot! He is also masculine and yet sweet. He is just unique and highly appealing to women of all ages and to many men as well. I just hope he keeps making his voice the center piece of his albums and does not get lost in trying to add hip music that doesn't let the total range of his voice shine through. Adam is exciting to watch and I would see him in concert anytime and I look forward to his album. Adam is a rare and exceptional talent so everything he does reflects that is who he is. His sexual preference just does not matter, so I am glad it is out there and we can move on.

Adam's sexuality not important unless you're a potential lover
99.99% of us will not ever have the opportunity to become intimate with Adam Lambert. The only people who should care about his sexuality are those who think they could have had a crack at sleeping with him. Is he talented with a voice that give us goosebumps? Yes. Will he continue to appeal to men and women alike? Yes. Does anyone REALLY care when he's singing if his preference is men over women? No. (Do I wish I was one of the .01% that had a shot - YOU BETCHA!)
Adam's talent and personality shine through
Adam's vocal ability, authenticity, and creativity are so great that his sexual preferences seem less important than they might in other artists. And interestingly, despite being gay, Adam is very appealing to many women. As he said to Charlie Rose "sexy is sexy". He is very comfortable with and obviously enjoys the sexual aspect of his nature. His open personality and warmth are also very appealing.
