Two other Longhorns walked ahead of Loy, a freshman, to set up his game-ending walk.
One of two hits for Russell Moldenhauer was a sixth-inning solo homer. Five others had one RBI for the top-seeded and top-ranked Longhorns (47-14-1), who face Arizona State in a winner's bracket game Tuesday at the double-elimination tournament -- Texas' 33rd appearance at Omaha.
USM, which scored three in the eighth to grab a 6-5 lead, got two hits from James Ewing -- one a two-run fifth-inning homer. Corey Stevens had one RBI, one run scored on a wild pitch and one one an error for the Golden Eagles (40-25), playing in the CWS for the first time in the career of retiring Coach Corky Palmer.
He has been USM coach since 1997.
