MLB: Chi. WSox 6, Detroit 1

Chicago -- Jose Contreras pitched eight scoreless innings Monday and the Chicago White Sox beat Detroit 6-1 for a split of a day-night doubleheader.

Brandon Inge had a run-scoring single in the ninth to give Detroit a 5-4 victory in the earlier game.

Contreras (1-5) allowed only one hit and one walk in his first start since May 8 to earn his first win since June 27 of last season. The 37-year-old right-hander had an 8.19 earned run average in his first six starts of the season and was removed from the White Sox rotation.

Alexei Ramirez, Scott Podsednik and Jim Thome each homered in the second game for the White Sox, who had lost six of seven. Thome wound up with three RBI and Jermaine Dye was 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Jeremy Bonderman (0-1) gave up six runs on eight hits and three walks in four-plus innings in his first appearance since June 1, 2008.
